If there’s one thing we took for granted in our younger days, it’s our wrinkle-free skin. Maybe you’re like us and far too often turned a blind eye to sunscreen, moisturizer, and all of the other products that help keep your skin tight and healthy.
We have good news at MedSpa at ChristiMD—the ship hasn’t completely sailed; we can reverse some of these aging signs with Botox in Katy! You can keep the lessons learned, but you don’t have to keep the wrinkles and folds that came with them.
Whether your goals for treatment are preventive or corrective in nature, let this be your complete Botox guide!
What is Botox®?
Botox® is a brand of neurotoxins. There are tons of brands of neurotoxins, but “Botox” has become the generic term for these muscle-relaxing injectables. Neurotoxin—produced from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum—stops your muscles from contracting when it is injected in small quantities into the muscles.
When your muscle contraction is blocked, wrinkles won’t form. This may sound stiff or unnatural, but with such small, subtle amounts, your facial expressions remain completely natural. If your injector administers the injections correctly, no one will be able to tell you had Botox!
The cool thing about neurotoxin is it’s both preventative and corrective. It smoothes out pre-existing wrinkles and fine lines while also stopping your muscles from contracting and forming new ones.
Will I look unnatural or “overdone”?
When it comes to Botox, our patients mostly have one fear: looking like they’ve “had work done.” Trust us—no one wants that and we don’t want that for you, either! Our philosophy at MedSpa at ChristiMD is “aging intentionally”. We don’t use Botox to “create” frozen faces, we use it to minimize signs of aging while maintaining natural expressions.
If you receive Botox in Katy from our expert injectors, you will have full use of your face and you will look natural!

Should I get Botox?
This is a very personal decision and people get Botox for different reasons! If your fine lines and wrinkles negatively affect your self-esteem or you want to prolong the onset of them, we recommend treatment. Since it’s not permanent, it can’t hurt to give it a try.

Neurotoxins we offer
We’ve been throwing the term “Botox” around for neurotoxin, but we offer two other brands: Xeomin® and Dysport®.
The main difference between the three brands is that Dysport and Botox contain added proteins, while Xeomin does not. Because of the different composition, Xeomin forms fewer antibodies and is able to last a little longer than the other two brands.
At MedSpa at ChristiMD, we use the different neurotoxin brands interchangeably, and you can leave it to us to select the one we think is best for you! However, if you have a brand preference, we’re happy to oblige.

Filler vs. Botox
Although dermal filler and Botox are both injectables that target aging concerns, they serve different purposes. While Botox smoothes wrinkles and fine lines and stops muscle contraction, filler’s main goal is to restore lost facial volume.
Filler also smooths out wrinkles, but it isn’t a neurotoxin, so it doesn’t stop muscle contraction. Another main difference is filler can be injected into the lips, while Botox cannot. A lip flip, however, is done with Botox. This treatment consists of a Botox injection above the lip, causing a muscle to relax, allowing the lip to flip “up”.
The easiest way to remember the difference is thinking of filler as “filling” in your wrinkles, fine lines, and hollow places where you’ve lost facial volume. Botox doesn’t restore volume; it smoothes wrinkles and lines and stops your muscles from contracting.

How to make Botox last longer
Botox isn’t permanent, which can be a good and bad thing. It’s good for those who aren’t sure if they’ll like Botox and want to dabble with it, but it’s bad for those who love Botox and want permanent results.
4 ways to make Botox last longer:
1. Follow aftercare instructions to a tee
We’ve developed the above aftercare instructions to protect and prolong your Botox injections! It’s important to follow them so you don’t end up breaking down the Botox before it has time to set in.
2. Keep up with maintenance appointments
The more regular you are with Botox injections (every 3 to 4 months) the better. This regularity helps train your facial muscles to not make movements that form wrinkles and it gets your body accustomed to the Botox.
3. Try a zinc supplement
A Journal of Drugs in Dermatology study showed that zinc supplements have enhanced and prolonged the effects of Botox by 30%.
You can discuss a zinc dosage that works for you with your primary care physician.
4. Avoid nicotine
Smoking damages the skin and breaks down collagen (which results in more wrinkles), plus the action of smoking results in wrinkles around your mouth and lips.
